Work–life balance leaves no room for civic life. In chasing equilibrium, we outsourced the public to the private, expecting some magical force to handle what we no longer have time for. Those who cannot find balance—because “life” includes work, family, and citizenship alike—begin to long for an automated savior: an AI government, an algorithmic society that promises prosperity and the bright cleanliness of a Tomorrowland. But automation of governance will not enrich life; it will hollow it out. It takes more away than it gives, stripping texture, friction, and responsibility. The only way to live is to participate fully in all aspects of life—and the tragedy of progress is that the more we advance, the fewer of those aspects remain within reach.

The way forward has always been to ignore the perils and keep pushing. The current meme saying “if we only knew, we’d never have started” is a symptom of this.

    The state of things

The political spectacle of this year is in full force. So many elections on the same topics that say nothing about problems and all about manipulating people to agree on made up problems.

With Trump apparently securing the win – only a dubious turn of events could change this, again – it so clear now how the Harris campaign was mostly done to make Trump win.

Dems picked the most random candidate. Dems focused on the most niche and divisive topics. Dems proposed literally more of the same.

This is the definition of intentional loss.

I wonder who decided this and why.
