What can’t “AI” do? Recursive next token prediction is so powerful because it names actions. Power is an action. AI with hands, with executing environments, with padded enablers written by the brightest minds in software engineering and financed by endless pockets – that is very powerful. It can do just about anything.
So … what’s left?
Today, I think the stuff that’s left to do is whetever remains deeply baked into human behavior, irrationality and experience modulation; not in mathematics, biology or behavioral science.
In short terms – “know-how” is going to explode in value. Friendliness and unfiltered candid takes. Hot takes too, RAG can only do so much, I think. Pure, raw creativity, even using AI to express it.
But among these know how stand out.
The problem is two ended:
- How to filter for know-how?
- How to signal having know-how?
Since the act of making becomes generally impossible to monetize profitably, the only resource for competing with a machine, which adapts to generate an infinite amount of stuff, is knowing.
The machine does not know. The machine executes and does now own its execution. Indifferent of the artifices the labs will come up with, the truth is we don’t have enough compute to simulate or kickstart consciousness. We don’t have the required efficiency, and we also don’t have the required math.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth being employed. Both questions above are filtered by corporate politics if you’re in or by automated applicant tracking systems. Is it time to consider cooperatives?
Why can’t other high skilled labor pull a McKinsey or PWC? The up and coming generation of workers would so deeply embrace the reshaped “consultancy firm” with a cooperative twist. I mean if you’re living with your parents at least try to change the world ffs!
The thing is all the leverage is in guiding the all powerful machine. That’s it. Whether it’s because of knowing, raw talent or pure determination no corporation can compensate you for the multiplication you drive through the use of the machine. If it did, the markets would make no sense anymore. It’s not because they don’t want to. It’s just not economically sane.
Maybe, just a thought, human potential banding together creates a third player between demand and supply: know how.
Yes. Gate keeping as a function that repressurizis the money printer. Something to give value to things.
Guilds. If we’re augmenting ourselves with machine intelligence because machines are stupid rocks, why not guild up? Are not the engineers of tomorrow like the navigators of Dune, seeing the future and dictating it to the hardware to make it so?
